After graduating from university, I got a job at a local bank, which is completely different from the eyewear industry. I served for two and a half years. In the loan department I was assigned to, I had many opportunities to talk with the company president and executives, and I think I was able to learn a lot about the society. It was a workplace where I could learn a lot, but as I looked ahead to my long life, I decided to leave the bank to learn the business outside of Japan. Then I moved to Los Angeles. After working for several companies including eyewear brands “RetroSpecs” and “AHLEM” for total of five years, I returned to Japan in 2019. I started working for GLOBE SPECS and participated in the launch of the Kyoto store in 2020. Since 2024, I have been working as a store manager at the Daikanyama store. I am excited to utilize the experience I have gained overseas and at each store to further enhance GLOBE SPECS as a center of eyewear culture.

At GLOBE SPECS, clothing, hairstyles, customer service styles are left to each individual’s discretion, and we have a culture that staff help each other. I get the impression that there are many staff members who have excellent human qualities and will help others if someone is in need. I believe that a flexible and strong team is possible when various staff members respect each other’s individuality while sharing the core of wanting to please the customer. Also, just because we’re in the customer service industry doesn’t mean we’re only looking for cheerful and energetic people. I believe that if you are a quiet person, you can take advantage of that characteristic when serving customers, and vice versa, of course.
If I had one wish for those who would join us, I would ask them to be able to express their thoughts in their own words. We propose eyewear that has a great impact on the customer’s impression, and if we do not have our own words, we will not be able to make good proposals I believe. At the interview, I want to know about this point, so I ask questions like “Where do you usually buy your clothes?” rather than the motivation for applying. It doesn’t matter what the answer is. I want them to tell me why they like that store in their own words.

To be honest, when I was a bank employee, I sometimes had to make proposals from a perspective other than the customer’s happiness, which was painful for me. At GLOBE SPECS, I feel that I am proposing something truly good and making customers happy. Isn’t this the most important thing in our work? GLOBE SPECS has a high reputation for its eye examination. But the same goes for frame adjustments. We often receive requests from clients to have them adjusted, even if they were not purchased at our store because they trust us. I believe that this is the result of the fusion of hospitality for customer service and high technology that GLOBE SPECS aims for.

Although eyewear has now become established as a fashion item in Japan, there are still many people who believe that “I don’t look good in glasses”. We would like to tell people that eyewear can be more “free” and “fun.” For example, in Europe and America, eyewear is seen as a tool for self-production and is used depending on the situation. I would like GLOBE SPECS to disseminate the appeal of eyewear as well as various suggestions that will make your daily life more enjoyable and enriching.
